Fan art, indeed, any art, is more than just beauty. It connects us. It brings the characters we love to life, it breathes color and emotion into our favorite stories. We're truly blessed in our corner of fandom to have so many skilled artists donating hours of their time for our entertainment. I never take a piece of art for granted. Every single one is a gift.

When I found that out one of my favorite artists was going to start taking commissions – and right before the holiday season, at that – I wanted to hoard her time and talent. But my wallet is not bottomless (sadly) and, even if it were, that wouldn't be fair to everyone else.

oldenuf2nb has a goal. She wants to help her daughter pursue her dream to be a dancer. It doesn’t come cheap, and that's where the rest of us win big. oldenuf2nb is going to spend the next few months taking commissions, selling holiday cards, and auctioning her art. Writers, I know every single one of you have a favorite scene or story of yours (or of someone else's) you'd love to have illustrated. I know nothing makes me happier than art for my fiction; it's a validation of my vision. And I know all of us have somebody on their flist who would adore one-of-a-kind artwork of their favorite characters, drawn just for them. It's the perfect holiday gift for a fandom friend.
