* My [info]fall_fantasia fic was posted! I got the most delicious Severus/Harry/Draco fic. Double Duty. Summary: Severus discovers that the world can change in seven short years. Fantastic! Severus has spent the last several years in statis, sleeping, while Harry and Draco, now healers, find an antidote to Nagini's bite. Lord, I love these three together. When written well, they are the perfect triad. And we definitely have that here: solid characterization, a good story, and smoking hot sex. *loves* Thank you, mystery author. I'm almost positive I know who you are, btw. ;)

* Fest musings. [info]fall_fantasia was the first fest I've participated in where there was an upper cap on the word limit -- in this case, 7K. The reader in me said, "yay!". The writer bit her fingernails. Still, it's been, imho, one of the most satisfying fests I've participated in. For one, I've been able to keep up with the posting schedule -- no falling behind or feeling guilty because I constantly skip the longer fics. For another, I felt as if so much of the stress of writing it was lessoned -- I knew penning a novel wasn't an option. I had to keep it short and sweet. It was FUN! And that's why I'm here. win/win

* [info]melusinahp is taking a poll on the posting of fest fics. Do you prefer offsite hosting or multiple LJ posts for longer fics? Go do the ticky! I'm curious to see where the chips fall. Right now, things are pretty even.

* At [info]hp_themed_recs this week: bond/courtship/marriage fic. Rec your faves!

I never wrote something with an upper word limit, and every time I tried and set one myself, the fics ended up twice as long. I nevertheless think it must be a great learning experience, as it's bound to teach authors a lot about the economy of writing.

Thanks for the link to the poll. Very interesting. :D
Yes. I discarded several ideas before settling on the one that I did, knowing there was no way I'd be able to flesh them out in under 7K. It was a learning experience. I've discovered that a "short story" is usually defined as ~6000 words or less. It can be a challenge to tell a complete story in so few words. And it takes practice, that's one thing I've learned. ;)

As for the poll...I see advantages to both. My thought is that each fest mod should do what's easiest for them.

That's quite amazing. For the author of an original story, to be able to build up characters and tell a story in so few words, that must be pretty hard. Even my shortest fic (that deserves the name) is a little over 7,000 words. But then, in fandom we mostly try to write longer, I think. In that light, there should me more fests with an upper word limit.

Yes, I think so, too. I'm very glad that the website is Fletch's baby and that she does all the work there. But I think IJ/LJ entries can be great, too. It's nice to see in-between comments, for example.
I haven't read your gift yet... but I agree with you on the word limit. I may actually be caught up within a week of the fest's closing.
:) Yes, me too. I've loved the low-key, low-pressure of this fest. And the people are all fantastic.
Severus/Harry/Draco fic

*ears perks up*
LOL Yes! My new Snarry's got a side of Draco, actually. And my H/D's tend to have a side of Snape. I think I'm a OT3 girl at heart. ;-p
That makes me very happy! :)

We're going to do a Drapery (Draco/Snape/Harry) fest in the spring! Aiming to post the month of March probably... I'll tempt you with it later, when we have an actual comm built and deadlines and such... :-)
